June 29, 2006 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of a three-count indictment* against Cleveland Powell charging him with making false statements to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The indictment charges that Powell secured housing and rental subsidies through the Section 8 program and provided false financial information in certifications required during the years 2001-2003. As alleged in the indictment, Powell claimed to have had limited assets and no income other than social security benefits in certifications submitted on connection with the Section 8 program while he operated a business known as “1502 C.P. Corporation” that owned property on Brown Street in Philadelphia, PA.

If convicted the defendant faces a statutory maximum of 15 years imprisonment, $750,000 fine, 3 years supervised release, and a $300 special assessment.
