October 18, 2006 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of an indictment* charging JOSE APONTE, with being a felon in possession of ammunition on or about September 6, 2006, in Philadelphia, in violation of 18 U.S.C. Section 922(g)(1). The indictment charges that the defendant possessed one box of MAGTECH .357 magnum ammunition, containing 41 rounds of live ammunition, one box of American Eagle .380 automation ammunition, containing nine rounds of live ammunition, and seventeen live rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition, on or about September 6, 2006, after having been convicted of a felony.
The defendant was arrested on September 23, 2006. Upon conviction, he faces the following maximum sentence: 10 years imprisonment; three years supervised release; a $250,000 fine; and a $100 special assessment.
