United States Attorney's Office News Release

October 4, 2006 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan and Lancaster County District Attorney Donald R. Totaro today announced the filing of a three-count indictment* which charges GREGORY H. LADNER with failure to surrender for service of sentence and escape, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 3146(a)(2) and 751(a), and false statement in application and use of a U.S. passport, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1542. The indictment alleges that on February 9, 2006, LADNER, a violent convicted felon who had been convicted of making false statements to a federally-licensed firearms licensee in an attempt to purchase a Taurus .40 caliber pistol, failed to report to federal prison to begin serving his 18 month sentence of imprisonment. The indictment further alleges that LADNER fraudulently obtained a new United States passport after his conviction by claiming that his current passport had been lost or stolen when, in fact, LADNER had surrendered that passport as a condition of his bail.

This indictment is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which is a joint initiative of local, state, and federal prosecutors including the United States Attorney's Office, Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, and other federal, state, and local agencies. One of the goals of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program is to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendants are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction. If convicted, in addition to serving his original sentence LADNER faces up to an additional 20 years imprisonment, a $750,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a $300 special assessment.
