United States Attorney's Office News Release

 

April 20, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of an indictment* charging THIRUMURTHY NAKKA BOOMAIAH, with interference with flight attendants on or about March 21, 2007, in Philadelphia, and in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, in violation of 49 U.S.C. Section 46504. The indictment charges that the defendant was traveling on British Airways Flight Number 67 from London, England to Philadelphia when he assaulted and intimidated British Airways flight attendants, and interfered with the performance and duties of the flight attendants and lessened the ability of the flight attendants and flight crew members to perform those duties.

The defendant was arrested on March 21, 2007. Upon conviction, he faces the following maximum sentence: 20 years imprisonment; three years supervised release; a $250,000 fine; and a $100 special assessment.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department. Prosecution has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
