United States Attorney's Office News Release

 

April 20, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of an Indictment* against Wendell Wilson charging him with possession of five (5) grams or more of cocaine base (“crack”), a Schedule II controlled substance. According to the indictment, Wilson possessed approximately 5.87 grams of “crack” , at or near 5246 Pulaski Avenue in Philadelphia, on November 7, 2005.

If convicted of possession, defendant Wilson faces a mandatory minimum five (5) years up to twenty (20) years in prison, and a mandatory $1,000 fine. Defendant Wilson faces 10 - 16 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines.

The case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office under an initiative in which offenders are identified for prosecution in federal court, where the penalty upon conviction is likely to be significant. The case has been assigned to Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Whitehead, Jr.
