May 16, 2007 - United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan and Lancaster County District Attorney Donald R. Totaro announced today the filing of a fourteen-count indictment* charging Donald Plowden, 647 East End Avenue, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, age 31, with five counts of distributing cocaine base (“crack”); five counts of distributing cocaine base (“crack”) within 1,000 feet of a school; one count of distributing cocaine; one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base (“crack”); one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base (“crack”) within 1,000 feet of a school; and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

If convicted, Plowden faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment with fifteen years mandatory minimum imprisonment, a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to a lifetime of supervised release, a fine of $43,250,000, and a $1400.00 special assessment. This indictment is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which is a joint initiative of local, state, and federal prosecutors including the United States Attorney's Office, Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other federal, state, and local agencies. One of the goals of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program is to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendants are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction.
