
Hazleton Man Charged with Three Bank Robberies
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today the filing of criminal charges against Shawn Luther Kelley, age 54, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania.
The Indictment alleges that Kelley committed the following robberies: (1) the PNC BANK, located at 499 Susquehanna Boulevard, Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, on April 16, 2012; (2) the CHOICE ONE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION, located at 983 North Sherman Court, Hazleton, Pennsylvania, on April 20, 2012; and (3) the CITIZENS BANK located at 40 West Broad Street, West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, on April 24, 2012. Kelley was arrested for the PNC and Citizens Bank robberies on April 24, 2012.
United States Attorney Peter J. Smith noted that if convicted of the charges, Kelley faces a maximum sentence of 60 years’ imprisonment and $750,000 in fines.
The case was investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania State Police, Hazleton Police Department and West Hazleton Police Department. Prosecution has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.
