DRUG TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that United States District Judge A. Richard Caputo sentenced Carl Boone, age 22, formerly of Scranton, Pennsylvania, to 120 months’ imprisonment for his involvement in the sale of crack cocaine in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

On February 26, 2008, Boone pled guilty to the charge of distributing crack cocaine in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The conviction followed an investigation by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During the course of the investigation, law enforcement agents received information that Carl Boone was selling crack cocaine with others in the Lackawanna County area. During the course of the investigation, cooperating witnesses made three purchases of crack cocaine from Boone on behalf of law enforcement officers. As the investigation progressed, investigators learned that Boone had carried a weapon and had aimed it at a drug customer over a marijuana debt. Following his arrest, FBI Special Agents seized a loaded firearm from Boone’s residence.

United States Attorney Carlson noted that parole has been abolished, and Boone will be required to serve at least 85% of his ten-year sentence, assuming he receives full time off for good behavior while incarcerated. In addition to the ten-year sentence of imprisonment, Judge Caputo further ordered Boone to be supervised by a United States Probation Officer for three years after serving his jail term.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.
