BANK ROBBER SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS’IMPRISONMENT

Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that Roy Boothe, age 41, of Stark Street, Plains, Pennsylvania, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to 70 months’ imprisonment for Bank Robbery.

Boothe had previously pleaded guilty to an indictment which alleged that on November 8, 2007, he robbed the First National Community Bank, Plains, Pennsylvania, during which he obtained $744. During the robbery Boothe placed what appeared to be gun on the counter and showed the teller a note which warned that no one would get shot as long as everyone stayed calm. Plains Township police officers arrested Boothe later that day and recovered a plastic gun and the bank’s money. At the time of his arrest, Boothe told an FBI Special Agent that he robbed the bank to pay a drug dealer for a debt.

Acting United States Attorney Carlson noted that parole has been abolished, and Boothe will be required to serve at least 85% of his 70-month sentence, assuming he receives full time off for good behavior while incarcerated. In addition to the 70-month sentence of imprisonment, Judge Kosik further ordered Boothe to be supervised by a Probation Officer for three years after serving his jail term during which he is to comply with the standard conditions of supervised release with the additional special condition that he refrain from using alcohol.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John Gurganus prosecuted the case.
