MONROE COUNTY COCAINE TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS IN PRISON

Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a Tobyhanna man was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas I. Vanaskie to serve 70 months in federal prison for participating in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy during 2005 and 2006.

Carlson stated that Eugene Ciraolo, age 42, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine and marijuana. Ciraolo resided in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania at the time of his arrest.

Ciraolo’s arrest and prosecution resulted from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Monroe County Drug Task Force. Ciraolo was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 5, 2006.

Judge Vanaskie also ordered Ciraolo to be placed on four years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence.

Ciraolo must also pay a $100 special assessment.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
