BUCKS COUNTY MAN WHO SOLD DRUGS IN COLUMBIA-SCHUYLKILL COUNTY AREA SENTENCED TO 40 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a Perkasie, Pennsylvania resident connected to a Columbia-Schuylkill County-based drug trafficking ring was sentenced to federal prison yesterday by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik.

Carlson stated that Kevin Cliver, age 25, was sentenced to serve 40 months in federal prison. Cliver previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.

Cliver was one of three people indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2007, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local police from Columbia County. A fourth defendant connected to the drug ring was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in a criminal information. All four defendants pleaded guilty to participating in the conspiracy.

Judge Kosik also ordered Cliver to serve four years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence and to forfeit $4,300 to the United States that was seized by agents during the investigation. Cliver was also ordered to pay a fine of $3500 and a special assessment of $100.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
