BROOKLYN MAN WHO PARTICIPATED IN HAZLETON DRUG RING SENTENCED TO 30 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Dennis C. Pfannenschmidt, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that another defendant connected to a Luzerne County-based heroin trafficking ring was sentenced to federal prison today by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik.

Pfannenschmidt stated that Peter Everett, age 25, who used the street name “Hailey” when he resided in the Hazleton area in 2006 and 2007, was sentenced to serve two and one-half years in federal prison. Everett previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin.

Everett was among more than 20 defendants indicted by a federal grand jury in 2006 and 2007, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Pennsylvania State Police, and local police from southern Luzerne County.

Judge Kosik also ordered Everett to serve three years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence, and to pay a special assessment of $100.

Pfannenschmidt noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
