LACKAWANNA COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR HEROIN TRAFFICKING

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 38-year-old Scranton resident was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to serve 10 years in federal prison for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy that operated in Lackawanna County during 2004 through 2008.

Carlson stated that Shawn Isom, who used the street name “Cuda,” previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin. Isom admitted to participating in a drug ring that obtained heroin from suppliers in New Jersey, transported the heroin to Pennsylvania, and distributed it to customers in Lackawanna County.

Isom is one of 15 defendants charged by a federal grand jury with participating in the drug conspiracy. Those charges resulted from an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATFE)and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office.

Judge Kosik also ordered that Isom will spend five years on supervised release after serving his prison sentence. Isom must also pay a fine of $500 and a special assessment of $100.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
