SCRANTON MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 19 YEARS FOR ROBBING BANK

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 37-year old Scranton man was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas I. Vanaskie to serve 230 months in federal prison for committing an armed robbery of the Penn Security Bank on Prescott Avenue in Scranton on May 9, 2007.

Carlson stated that Patrick Lucky pleaded guilty on December 20, 2007, to committing the bank robbery.
Lucky was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2007, as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Pennsylvania State Police, and Scranton Police. Investigators recovered the $5,595 taken from the bank when Lucky and his accomplice, Susan Brooks, were apprehended. Brooks previously pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting Lucky in the commission of the bank robbery and was sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Judge Vanaskie also ordered that Lucky be placed on five years of supervised release following his prison sentence. Lucky must also pay a $100 special assessment.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
