MONROE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 57 MONTHS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 32-year-old East Stroudsburg man was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to serve 57 months in prison for trafficking in crack cocaine and heroin.

Carlson stated that Dana Morton, who used the street name “Bear,” pleaded guilty on November 6, 2007, to one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and heroin. The offense was committed in March 2007.

Morton’s prosecution stemmed from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department. Morton was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 4, 2007.

Judge Kosik also ordered Morton to be placed on supervision by the U.S. Probation Office for three years following his release from prison. Morton also is required to pay a $100 special assessment.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
