YORK COUNTY WOMEN INDICTED IN WALMART FRAUD SCHEME

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that on May 14, a federal grand returned an indictment charging Crista Renee Orr, age 31, of York, Pennsylvania, with criminal conspiracy to manufacture counterfeit and fictitious business checks.

According to U.S. Attorney Carlson, in late 2007, an investigation commenced in York County to investigate counterfeit business checks that were allegedly being passed at the East and West York Walmart Stores as well as local check cashing businesses. Through the course of the investigation, Orr was identified as allegedly being the printer of the counterfeit and fictitious business checks. A search warrant was executed and a computer and printer/scanner belonging to Orr were seized. The current amount of loss is over $81,000.

If convicted, Orr faces up to five years in prison, restitution and fines of up to $250,000.

This case is being investigated by the United States Secret Service; York City Police Department; Springettsbury Township Police Department; and the West Manchester Township Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Daryl F. Bloom is prosecuting the case.

****
An Indictment or Information is not evidence of guilt but simply a description of the charge made by the Grand Jury and/or United States Attorney against a defendant. A charged Defendant is presumed innocent until a jury returns a unanimous finding that the United States has proven the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or until the defendant has pled guilty to the charges.
