SCHUYLKILL COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR DRUG OFFENSE

Dennis C. Pfannenschmidt, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 40-year-old Pottsville resident was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to serve 40 months in prison for his participation in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy that operated in Schuylkill County and elsewhere in 2007 and 2008.

Pfannenschmidt stated that Brian Specht previously pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to distribute methamphetamine.

Specht was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2008, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Pennsylvania State Police, the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office, and local police in Schuylkill County.

Judge Kosik also ordered Specht to be placed on three years of supervised release following his prison sentence, to pay a fine of $500 and a special assessment of $100.

Pfannenschmidt noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
