PHILADELPHIA MAN WHO SOLD DRUGS IN HAZLETON SENTENCED TO 35 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that another defendant connected to a Luzerne County-based heroin trafficking ring was sentenced to federal prison today by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik.

Carlson stated that Gilfredo Terron, age 47, was sentenced to serve 35 months in federal prison. Terron previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Terron was among more than 20 defendants indicted by a federal grand jury in 2006 and 2007, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Pennsylvania State Police, and local police from southern Luzerne County.

Judge Kosik also ordered Terron to serve three years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence, and to pay a special assessment of $100.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
