PHILADELPHIA MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR SELLING DRUGS

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 26-year-old Philadelphia resident was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to serve five years in prison for distributing crack cocaine and other drugs in Luzerne County during 2006.

Carlson stated that Tariq Tull, who was staying in Wilkes-Barre at the time of his arrest, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, cocaine, and heroin.

Tull was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 23, 2007, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Kingston Police, and Wilkes-Barre Police.

Judge Kosik also ordered Tull to be placed on five years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence. Tull must also pay a $100 special assessment. The Judge also ordered Tull to forfeit to the United States $3,248 that was seized by agents at the time of Tull’s arrest.

Tull’s brother, Edward Tull, was previously sentenced by Judge Kosik to 10 years in prison for his role in the drug conspiracy.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
