BROOKLYN MAN SENTENCED TO 77 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Dennis C. Pfannenschmidt, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 34-year-old Brooklyn man was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to serve 77 months in federal prison for participating in a Luzerne County-based heroin trafficking conspiracy during 2006 and 2007.

Pfannenschmidt stated that Armeen Williams pleaded guilty on March 19, 2009, to conspiracy to distribute heroin. Williams’ prosecution resulted from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Pennsylvania State Police, and local police from southern Luzerne County. More than 20 drug traffickers were charged as a result of the investigation, and all have pleaded guilty in federal court to drug trafficking crimes.

Judge Kosik also ordered Williams to serve three years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence, and to pay a fine of $2000 and a special assessment of $100.

Pfannenschmidt noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
