OHIOAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR DRUG CONSPIRACY

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, July 2, 2008, that Roger L. Simons, Jr., a resident of Columbus, Ohio, has been sentenced in federal court in Johnstown to  120 months imprisonment and five years supervised release on his conviction of violating federal narcotics laws.

United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed sentence on Simons, age 22.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines, from November 16, 2006, to February 2, 2007, Simons conspired with a co-defendant to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fifty grams or more of cocaine base, commonly known as "crack."

Ms. Buchanan commended the Southwest Pennsylvania Safe Streets Task Force, which is comprised of law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cambria County Drug Task Force, Johnstown Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office and the Richland Township Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Simons.
