APOLLO WOMAN CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLING MONEY FROM NATIONAL CITY BANK
United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, November 18, 2008, that Michelle Smith-Archibald of Apollo, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of embezzlement.
The one-count indictment named Smith-Archibald, age 40, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, on May 11, 2005, and continuing until September 20, 2005, Smith-Archibald embezzled $5,757.37 from National City Bank, in Freeport, Pennsylvania.
Assistant United States Attorney Tina O. Miller, who presented the case to the grand jury, indicated that the law provides for a maximum total sentence of thirty (30) years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000.00, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The United States Secret Service and the Freeport Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
