MAN GETS PROBATION WITH HOME DETENTION FOR STEALING PENSION CHECKS
United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, February 4, 2009, that Robert B. Crye, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 5 years' probation with 6 months of home detention and ordered to pay full restitution on his conviction of theft from an employee benefit plan.
United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Crye, age 69, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Luke E. Dembosky, from September 1, 1997 through June 1, 2003, Crye took and deposited for his own use $26,376.44 in employee pension benefit plan checks from the Western Pennsylvania Electrical Workers' pension fund, which checks were intended for Crye's mother, Sara Crye, who had died on August 26, 1997.
Ms. Buchanan commended the Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Crye.
