ELLWOOD CITY MAN FACING MULTIPLE GUN LAW VIOLATIONS
United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, February 17, 2009, that Dean Huzinec of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal firearm and explosives laws.
The four-count indictment named Huzinec, age 47, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment presented to the grand jury, Huzinec, after having been convicted of a felony crime, knowingly possessed 19 firearms, a firearm silencer, and Trenchrite explosive material on or about August 17, 2008.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller, who presented the case to the grand jury, indicated that the law provides for a maximum total sentence of 40 years in prison and a fine of $520,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Franklin Township Police Department, the Allegheny County Police Department Bomb Squad, the Beaver County District Attorney's Office, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Ellwood City Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
According to Ms. Buchanan, this case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and communities to prevent, deter, and prosecute gun crime.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the United States must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
