Luis M. Matos

Luis M. Matos, First Assistant United States Attorney. Mr. Matos graduated from Brown University and the University of Connecticut School of Law. He speaks Portuguese fluently. He began his legal career in private practice as a civil litigator in the DC office of Newman & Holtzinger, LLC. From 1992 to 1997 he worked as a trial attorney specializing in government contract litigation in the Department of Justice's Civil Division. From 1997 to 2001 he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Delaware, where he prosecuted health care fraud cases. While in Delaware, Mr. Matos completed a one-year detail in Washington, DC as Health Care Fraud Coordinator. When Mr. Matos relocated to Rhode Island in 2001, he joined our team. Since then he has prosecuted both civil and criminal health care fraud and white collar cases. In 2005 Mr. Matos became the Chief of the Civil Division, and from 2006 to March 2007 was Chief of the Criminal Division.
