North Carolina Man Indicted for Possessing Firearms in Providence
A federal grand jury has charged a North Carolina man with being a felon in possession of firearms.
United States Attorney Robert Clark Corrente and Marc Curtin, Resident Agent in Charge of the Providence office of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, announced a one count indictment, which the grand jury returned against BENNIE PASTOR CHANCE IV, 25, of Rollings, North Carolina on September 10, 2008, in U.S. District Court, Providence. The charges stem from a 2008 high speed chase in Providence. Chance was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant in North Carolina. He was arraigned on June 18, 2009 by Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. Almond and ordered detained without bail pending trial.
If convicted, Chance faces a maximum term of 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. ATF investigated the case along with the Providence Police Department and it is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard W. Rose.
