Providence Man Pleads Guilty to Crack Sale
Jeffrey Patrick, 21 of Providence, Rhode Island, has pled guilty to a single count indictment charging him with distribution of five grams or more of cocaine base.
United States Attorney Robert Clack Corrente announced the guilty plea, which Patrick entered on June 18, 2009, before Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi in U.S. District Court in Providence. At the plea hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard W. Rose said the government could prove that on April 25, 2008, Patrick told an undercover agent (“UC”) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (“ATF”), that he could sell the undercover seven grams of crack cocaine.
On May 9, 2008 the undercover agent and Patrick met to complete the cocaine sale. They met outside the Broadway Mart, located in Providence. Patrick approached the UC’s car and delivered a clear plastic bag containing cocaine base. The transaction was recorded by the agent.
Patrick was held without bail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for on September 11, 2009. The maximum sentence is forty years imprisonment with a five year mandatory minimum. The defendant also faces a $2,000,000 fine. ATF conducted the investigation and it is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard W. Rose.
