Defendant sentenced to 200 months imprisonment
for drug trafficking offenses

            A federal judge today sentenced Andrew Snead, age 35, of Providence to 200months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine powder, and possession with intent to distribute marijuanaSnead pleaded guilty to the offenses on March 4, 2009, admitting that on May 8, 2008, when he was arrested, he was storing crack cocaine, powder cocaine, and marijuana in his apartment. 
            Acting United States Attorney Luis M. Matos announced the sentence, which Chief Judge Mary M. Lisiimposed today in U.S. District Court, Providence.  Chief Judge Lisi also imposed a five-year term of supervised release on Snead to commence after his release from federal prison. 
            At the sentencing, Assistant U. S. Attorney Kenneth P. Madden referenced Snead’s eight prior state felony convictions for drug trafficking, drug possession, and firearms possession.In sentencing Snead, Chief Judge Lisi described Snead as a “menace on our streets” who is a “career offender” and needs “to be treated harshly.”
The Providence Police Department’s narcotics unit conducted the investigation.
