Columbia, South Carolina---- United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that Carroll Lynn Williams, age 36, of Marion, South Carolina, was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Florence, South Carolina, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2250(a). United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten of Florence sentenced WILLIAMS to 36 months and five years supervised release.
Evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that Williams was convicted on October 31, 1997, in Marlboro County, of committing a lewd act on a minor. Williams registered as a sex offender when he was released from prison and transferred his sex offender registration to Texas when he moved. In November 2011, Williams returned to South Carolina but failed to change his registration in Texas or register in South Carolina. Williams was arrested on February 24, 2012, by the United States Marshals Service.
The case was investigated by agents of the United States Marshals Service. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II of the Florence office handled the case.
