Federal Grand Jury Indictments

Columbia, South Carolina -----United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that a Federal Grand Jury in Columbia, South Carolina, returned Indictment(s) against the following:

Anderson Man Indicted for Environmental Crimes Involving Asbestos.  Scott William Farmer, age 37, of Anderson, South Carolina was charged in a 9-count indictment.  Scott William Farmer was charged with Knowing Violation of Work Practices Governing Hazardous Air Pollutants, a violation of Title 42, U. S. C., Section 7413(c)(1) and Knowing Endangerment by Release of Hazardous Air Pollutants, a violation of Title 42, U. S. C., Section 7413(c)(5).  The maximum penalty Farmer could receive is 15 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000. The case was investigated by agents of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health and Environmental Control of South Carolina and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Lea Nabors Schoen of the Greenville office for prosecution.

The United States Attorney stated that all charges in this Indictment are merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
