COLUMBIA, South Carolina ---- Today United States Attorney Bill Nettles distributed Halloween safety tips aimed at trick-or-treaters, parents and businesses.  These flyers, which are geared toward reminding everyone to be safe during Halloween, are being distributed to communities as part of the office’s Project CeaseFire program.  Copies of the flyers, which are available in English and Spanish, are attached.
Project CeaseFire is South Carolina's implementation of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a national federal initiative designed to reduce neighborhood violence and promote safety.  The initiative promotes partnerships among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and outreach to communities and schools.  More information concerning the national initiative may be found at, while more information concerning the South Carolina initiative may be found at
Nettles said, "We all want our children to have a safe Halloween. Using these safety tips and some common sense can help us keep our children safe at Halloween.”
