Federal Grand Jury Indictments

     COLUMBIA, SC – United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that a Federal Grand Jury in Columbia, South Carolina, returned Indictment(s) against the following:

Columbia Man Indicted for Production and Possession of Child Pornography.  David James Merlino, age 44, of Columbia, South Carolina was charged in a 2-count indictment with Possession of Child Pornography, a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2252A(a)(5)(B) and Production and attempt to Produce Child Pornography, a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2251(a) and (e).  The maximum penalty Merlino could receive is 50 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000.  The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Jamie Lea Nabors Schoen and DeWayne Pearson for prosecution.

The United States Attorney stated that all charges in these Indictments are merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
