Columbia, South Carolina –--United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that Whitney Daniel, age 48, was sentenced this week in federal court in Florence, South Carolina, for failure to register as a sex offender.  United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence, sentenced Daniel to 6 months imprisonment and five years supervised release.
Evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that Daniel was convicted in 2003 of Oral Copulation with a Minor, and was required to register as a sex offender. Daniel last registered in California in 2009, and had signed numerous forms and updates between 2004 and 2009, acknowledging that he was required to register as a sex offender. Investigation revealed that Daniel had been in South Carolina since approximately August 2011, but had failed to register in South Carolina or notify California of his new address.
The case was investigated by agents of the United States Marshals Service.  Assistant United States Attorney Bill Day of the Florence office prosecuted the case.
