Columbia, South Carolina ---- United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that a Federal Grand Jury in Columbia, South Carolina, returned Indictment(s) against the following:
ELGIN MAN INDICTED ON AMMUNITION CHARGE.
FREDDIE GRANT, age 52 of Elgin, was charged in a one-count Indictment with being a felon in possession of ammunition, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1), 924(a)(2), and 924(e). The maximum penalty FREDDIE GRANT could receive is a maximum of ten (10) years imprisonment. However, should the court determine that GRANT is an armed career criminal with three prior convictions for a violent felony and/or a serious drug offense, he would face a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of fifteen (15) years and a maximum of life imprisonment. The case was investigated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state and local Project CeaseFire initiative, which aggressively prosecutes firearm cases and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Stacey D. Haynes of the Columbia office for prosecution.
