Youth Against Bullying Summit

Several hundred middle and high students, school administrators, guidance counselors, teachers and school resource officers will participate in a one-day Youth Against Bullying Summit on September 24 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and will work together to take a stand against bullying, not only in their schools, but also outside the school environment.  The Columbia Police Department will host the event, sponsored by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, S.C. Department of Education Student Intervention Services, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association. 

Chief Ruben Santiago and State Superintendent of Education Dr. Mitchell M. “Mick” Zais will address the group during the opening session. 

At 3:00 p.m., the press is invited to attend when U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles addresses bullying from a personal perspective as well as a policy perspective.  He will be available for press interviews after his remarks.
