Parmelee man appeared for change of plea

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Chris Running Horse, age 20, of Parmelee, appeared before Chief United States District Judge Karen E. Schreier on October 16, 2009, and pled guilty to Count I of the Indictment that charged him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The maximum penalty upon conviction is ten years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both, and a period of supervised release of three years. Additionally, a $100 assessment to the Victims Assistance Fund and restitution may be ordered. The charges stem from the May 3, 2009, assault of a Todd County juvenile. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Kevin J. Krull. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for January 15, 2010. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal pending sentencing. # # #
