United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for two counts of Theft From a Public Organization Receiving Federal Funds. Jamie Lee Beisch, age 33, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 13, 2009, for Theft From a Public Organization Receiving Federal Funds. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on October 20, 2009, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years supervised release; and $100 Special Assessment on each count. Restitution may also be ordered. The charges relate to the alleged theft of federal monies provided to the McLaughlin School District from July 2007 to February 2009 while Beisch was the business manager for the school district. The charge is merely an accusation, and Beisch is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the South Dakota Office of Attorney General’s Division of Criminal Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Beisch was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set. # # # |
