United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Wakpala, South Dakota, man charged with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury was sentenced on October 26, 2009, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Robert C. Baker, III, age 36, was sentenced to 60 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 special assessment to the Victims Assistance Fund. Baker was indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury on March 18, 2009. The charges relate to the Defendant’s stabbing of his girlfriend in Wakpala in March of 2006. He pled guilty to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury on June 23, 2009. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case. Baker was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal. # # # |
