United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin, South Dakota, woman charged with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Aiding and Abetting an Assault With a Dangerous Weapon was sentenced on October 26, 2009, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Lacey L. Helper, age 21, was sentenced to 24 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 special assessment to the Victims Assistance Fund. Helper was indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury on May 12, 2009. The charges relate to a November 2007 assault on a McLaughlin woman. Helper pled guilty to Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Aiding and Abetting an Assault With a Dangerous Weapon on July 9, 2009. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case. Helper was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal. # # # |
