United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin, South Dakota, man charged with First Degree Burglary was sentenced on October 26, 2009, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Jess J. Maxon, also known as Jessie Maxon, age 33, was sentenced to 24 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 special assessment to the Victims Assistance Fund. Maxon was indicted for First Degree Burglary and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon by a federal grand jury on January 21, 2009. The charges relate to events that took place on October 16, 2007, when Maxon entered a residence in McLaughlin, South Dakota, at night with the intent to commit an assault on an occupant of the house. He pled guilty to First Degree Burglary on July 9, 2009. This case was investigated by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case. Maxon was ordered to self-report to the United States Bureau of Prisons on November 17, 2009, to begin serving his sentence. # # # |
