Acting U.S. Attorney Dennis R. Holmes announced that a man charged with Illegal Reentry After Deportation was sentenced on October 2, 2009, by Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Jeronimo Santiago-Garcia, a/k/a Jeronimo Cruz-Quero, age 32, was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment and ordered to pay $100 to the Victims Assistance Fund. He will be immediately deported upon release from prison. Santiago-Garcia was charged by an information for Illegal Reentry After Deportation on August 31, 2009, and pled guilty on September 2, 2009. Santiago-Garcia was deported from the United States on or about February 14, 2007, at Laredo, Texas. On July 18, 2009, during a booking process at the Pennington County Jail, he presented a Mexican identification card with a fake name and admitted that he was a citizen and national of Mexico. It was revealed that Santiago-Garcia, an alien, had not submitted requests to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security or the Attorney General for permission to enter the United States. This case was investigated by Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case. Santiago-Garcia was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. # # # |
