Acting US Attorney Dennis R. Holmes announced that a Hot Springs man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of Distributing Cocaine and two counts of Distributing Marijuana in Hot Springs. Jacob Clark, age 19, was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 22, 2009, for Distribution of a Controlled Substance. He appeared before US Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on October 9, 2009, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction of each cocaine charge is 20 years imprisonment and/or a $1,000,000 fine; the maximum penalty upon conviction of each marijuana charge is 5 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation, and Clark is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team, DEA and ATF. Assistant US Attorney Mark A. Vargo is prosecuting the case. Clark was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set. # # # |
