Rapid City Man Sentenced on Drug Conspiracy

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rapid City man charged with Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance was sentenced on October 26, 2009, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Jared Marquez Matthews, age 28, was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment, 5 years supervised release, and a $100 victims' assessment. Matthews was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 22, 2008. Between February 2006 and November 2007, Matthews conspired with others to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marihuana in South Dakota. On July 27, 2009, he pled guilty to the charge. This case was investigated by DEA and the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team. Assistant US Attorney Carolyn G. Olson prosecuted the case. Matthews was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal. # # #
