Illinois Man Pled Guilty to Possession of a Short-Barreled Shotgun

Rapid City, SD

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Oscar Saenz, age 48, of Morris, Illinois, appeared before Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on October 27, 2009, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with Possession of a Short-Barreled Shotgun. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years imprisonment; 3 years supervised release; and a $250,000 fine, or both. Saenz possessed a weapon made from a shotgun, having a barrel length of less than 18 inches, that was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registry. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri. A presentence investigation was ordered, and sentencing was set for February 1, 2010. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing. # # #
