Illegal Alien Indicted and Pleads Not Guilty to Charge

Rapid City, SD

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Illegal Reentry After Deportation. Leopoldo Saucedo-Banuelos, age 36, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 20, 2009, for Illegal Reentry After Deportation. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on October 30, 2009, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 2 years imprisonment, 1 year supervised release, and a $250,000 fine, or both. The charge is merely an accusation, and Saucedo-Banuelos is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by Bureau of Immigration, Customs and Enforcement/ Homeland Security. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mara M. Kohn is prosecuting the case. Saucedo-Banuelos was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set. # # #
