Eagle Butte Man Sentenced Time Served for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

Rapid City, SD

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man charged with Failing to Register as a Sex Offender was sentenced on October 27, 2009, by Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Dion Knife, age 37, of Eagle Butte, was sentenced to time served, 5 years supervised release, and ordered to pay $100 to the Victims Assistance Fund. Knife was indicted for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender by a federal grand jury on November 19, 2008. Knife pleaded guilty on August 13, 2009, to not complying with sex offender registration requirements mandated under law, registering under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. This case was investigated by the United States Marshal's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg S. Peterman prosecuted the case. # # #
