Eagle Butte Man Sentenced for

Possession of a Stolen Firearm

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte, South Dakota, man charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm was sentenced on December 20, 2010, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Jason Garreau, age 24, was sentenced to 12 months of home confinement, two years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Garreau was indicted for Possession of a Stolen Firearm by a federal grand jury on February 18, 2010. The charge relates to the possession of a stolen firearm on or about January 5, 2009. Garreau pled guilty to Possession of a Stolen Firearm on September 28, 2010.

The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force and Division of Criminal Investigation. Special Assistant United States Attorney Ted L. McBride prosecuted the case.

Garreau was released.
