Lower Brule Woman Pleads Guilty to Possession of a Controlled Firearm

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Lauren LaRoche, age 22, of Lower Brule, appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on December 6, 2010, and pled guilty to Count I of the indictment that charged her with Possession of a Controlled Firearm. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment.

The charge stems from an incident whereby LaRoche possessed a firearm while making threats to a Lower Brule man in March of 2010. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for March 1, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
