Chamberlain man sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in custody for distribution of marijuana to a person under the age of 21.

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Chamberlain, South Dakota, man charged with distribution of marijuana to a person under the age of 21 was sentenced on January 3, 2011, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Cody Chasing Hawk, age 31, was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in custody, 4 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
Chasing Hawk was indicted on two counts of distribution of marijuana to a person under the age of 21 by a federal grand jury on July 20, 2010. The charges relate to Chasing Hawk's distribution of marijuana on February 4th, 2010. Chasing Hawk pled guilty to one of the counts on September 27, 2010.
The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Ted L. McBride.
Chasing Hawk was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
