Mission Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Minor

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mission, South Dakota, man charged with Sexual Abuse of a Minor was sentenced on February 14, 2011, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Nicodemus J. Blue Bird, age 43, was sentenced to 37 months in custody, five years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Blue Bird was indicted for Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Abusive Sexual Contact with a Minor by a federal grand jury on October 13, 2010. The charges relate to Blue Bird sexually abusing a minor female between July and August of 2010 in Todd County. He pled guilty to Sexual Abuse of a Minor on November 24, 2010.

This case was investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and Rosebud Law Enforcement Services. Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case.
Blue Bird was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
